The company is also launching an app called FordPass to support small firms and drivers.
The American automotive giant Ford is bringing its first all-electric Transit commercial van in 2021. In an event held in Amsterdam on April 2, 2019, Ford announced Transit EV along with 12 more electric vehicles that will be a part of the company’s European portfolio. Although the company did not reveal much about the car, its sale is slated in Europe only. Alongside Transit EV, Ford is also bringing Tourneo Van with the PHEV model.
Furthermore, Ford provided an update on a plug-in hybrid version of Transit which was announced in 2017. The hybrid version of Transit will be powered by the 13.6-kWh battery with a 1.0-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine. In only hybrid mode, Transit could travel 50 kilometers and in electric mode, it could travel 500 kilometers. The company says its sale will go out in late 2019 in Europe. Another interesting news was Ford has decided to target 100 % uptime for commercial vehicle operators. Ford is aiming for that target with a usage-based maintenance program that will be powered by an app called FordPass Pro which was also previewed at the event. This app, launching in 2019, will particularly be designed to support smaller firms and drivers to maximize their productivity.
General Manager of commercial vehicles at Ford of Europe, Hans Schep addressed this saying, “Commercial customers need smarter, more integrated solutions, built around a connected business environment.” The company is working on the wind tunnel tests and thereafter it will conduct road trails for Transit Smart Energy Concept. The results obtained in these tests will be used to develop the products and increase the volume of production. One thing is clear that all these commercial vehicles are designed for Ford of Europe only and will be launched eventually.
