Google Tez Adds Utility Bill Payment Feature
Cashless transactions app, Google Tez has been updated with new feature of supporting bill payments in India.
Google Tez app operates on government’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) to enable cashless transactions. The new updated feature is available for Android and iOS users. Various UPI-based transaction apps such as Paytm and MobiKwik already offer utility bill payment feature form a long time. Google had announced the bill payments feature in December, 2018.
User can pay electricity bills, gas bills, landline bills, and postpaid mobile bills. Furthermore, the app supports DTH recharge and payments for insurance premiums. The app has over 70 billers, including ACT, Airtel, DishTV, DoCoMo, MTNL, and Tata Power. “As we announced at Google for India in 2017, we are starting to roll out a customised experience for bill payments to Tez users to make this monthly task a much more convenient and pleasant experience,” mentioned a Google spokesperson said in a statement.
The feature works on the latest version of Google Tez app on Android (v8.0) or iOS (v8.0). User can view existing bills by tapping biller from the bottom of screen to see a list of all paid and pending bills. Similarly, user can also check the payment history by tapping a biller from the list. According to the Google’s Next Billion Users initiative chief Caser Sengupta, the app has over 12 million users in India. The app has processed 140 million transactions since September 2017.
