GYENNO, a China-based company is focused on developing technologies to help people with Parkinson’s and other movement disorders. It showcased Gait Aid Equipment package at CES 2018 conference in Las Vegas. The company states that Gait Aid consists of a number of devices, which work together to influence how people walk. The device is also expected to help around 60% of late-stage Parkinson’s patients suffering from gait freeze.

Gait freeze is a momentary physical pause after deciding to move. Patients are unable to shift or move their bodies, but this doesn’t necessarily happen. The result is jerky, careful movements that project a lack of confidence in how one walks. Gait freeze can also lead to falls and severe injuries. “It’s hard to imagine what life is like for people who experience tremors on a daily basis. It’s frustrating and days can be really tough,” said Kang Ren, founder and CEO, GYENNO Technologies. “While there is no cure, we are using sophisticated technology to help remove some of that stress for people and help them enjoy doing simple everyday activities like going for a walk or having dinner with friends and family. Our equipment is designed so we are always learning about these conditions and can continuously enhance our products to help people live their best life,” he added.

According to Parkinson’s disease Therapeutic Market report published by Coherent Market Insights, Parkinson’s disease progression leads to uncontrolled body movement of the patient. There is no cure presently for Parkinson’s disease only treatments options such as medication and surgery to manage the symptoms are available. The Gait Aid Equipment features a bunch of devices that attach to the torso, legs, and/or a cane. Although the combination of which to use depends on the patient, the devices work together to generate visual, aural, and tactile signals that help patients to improve their walking gait. The system operates through computer learning methods to improve ease of using in patients.
