India Intends to Run Test Journeys for Hyperloop by 2021
India has taken the initiative to build a Hyperloop, according to a recent study published by engadget on February 19, 2018.
India has committed to build a working test track within three years. Virgin Hyperloop One partnered with the Indian state of Maharashtra and this was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sir Richard Branson. The route going via Mumbai International Airport, a high-speed link connecting cities of Pune and Mumbai will be developed by them.
At present, by train or car it takes three and a half hours to travel from Pune to Mumbai. The development of Hyperloop can reduce the journey to 25 minutes and a reduction in freight times between Mumbai’s port and the inland Pune can also be observed. Since a quarter of freight has Pune as its destination, reduction in freight time is important. Thus, 25 percent of traffic caused by heavy goods on roads can be reduced by this development. A study of six months will be the initial step of the Mumbai-Pune project. A part of the final planned route will be constructed as test track if the numbers come up right.
By 2021, India could be running test journeys and it is expected to fully work by 2028 after further research and economics work out. Josh Giegel, co-founder had earlier revealed that there are plans to build a longer test track. This is a faster mode of transportation and will have minimal environmental impacts. Therefore, this development is expected to increase the smart transportation market, as elaborated in the smart transportation market report published by Coherent Market Insights.
