Larry Page’s Autonomous Air Taxi to Be Launched in New Zealand
Larry Page’s self-driving air taxi that will be used for transportation services will fly in New Zealand, according to a report published on March 13, 2018.
According to the reports published in 2016, two projects on flying car by Larry Page was in progress and in 2017, the Flyer recreational vehicle was presented. In 2018, Larry Page will be launching Cora, which is an autonomous air taxi developed by Kitty Hawk company. This electric aircraft will be used for transportation services and is not meant for sale to individual users. This air taxi uses self-flying software and it does not require a runway, as it has 12 lift fans for vertical take-off and landing (VTOL).
Once it takes off, Cora is driven by a single propeller at about 110 miles per hour. It has three independent flight-computers, which will be useful if one goes down and it has a parachute, which can be used in emergency situations. On March 13, 2018, the company along with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced an agreement for testing the vehicles in New Zealand. A timeline about the availability of this plane for rides is not yet announced by the company. This is not the first company to work on air taxi concepts, however, companies like EHang and Uber Elevate are not yet functioning.
Once this autonomous air taxi is available for rides, it is expected to increase the growth of autonomous cars market, as detailed in the autonomous cars market report published by Coherent Market Insights.
