Smartphone Can Be Used As Car Key
BMW exhibited their autonomous i3 electric car that can be summoned by phone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC), according to a report published on February 26, 2018.
Similar to the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), MWC also has become a platform for new in-car technology. BMW has again come up with its recent innovations, which includes few current and future technologies that are likely to come up in the future. The autonomous i3 electric car by BMW can be operated using a smartphone.
When the car arrives, we take a seat at the back and the car starts to move. The car has an entertainment system on the rear seat, which allows the user to control few functions of the car such as horn, headlight flasher, and door locking and unlocking. Once we reach the destination, we get out of the car and lock the doors and parking spot is found by the car itself.
For these cars to be available in the market, it will take few more years. The use of BMW Digital Key to lock or unlock them will be seen in the near future. This digital key can be shared with five other people and is one of the best features of this key. By July 2018, this feature will be made available for BMW drivers, however, for now it will work only with Samsung smartphones.
They have also made an announcement that a second eSIM will be brought into these cars. Just like smartphones have the option of allowing the users to use two or more eSIMs, cars are also expected to have that facility in the future. Once this autonomous electric car by BMW is commercialized, the growth of autonomous cars market will be increased, as elaborated in the autonomous cars market report published by Coherent Market Insights.
