Taxify Pauses its Services in London as U

Taxify- A transportation network company which is also a rival to the already established Uber transportation service company, confirmed on Friday, 8th August 2017, that it has temporarily paused its services and operations mainly in London after they were questioned by the regulator of Transport for London about its license to operate in the capital. The services by the Estonian start-up were halted just three days after the regulator stepped in and enquired the company for not being able to attain a valid operating license. Taxify is operating in twenty-five cities in eastern and central Europe as well as in Africa. The taxi-hailing company recently launched private car hire services primarily in London this week.

A spokesman from Transport for London said, “taxify is don’t have an operating license and thus cannot a licensed private taxi hire operator in London. The company is not qualified to accept any private hire requests or bookings in London. Transport for London has provided instructions to Taxify to immediately stop accepting any private bookings and the company has followed the instructions so far.”

On the other hand, Taxify mentioned that its personal software platform that they used to connect passengers and drivers was working with an authorized and licensed private hire firm in London known as City Drive Services. City Hire was established in 2014. As per the company house filings, the company is based in southeast London. The company said it has already appointed 3,000 drivers who would drive for the firm and had roughly 30,000 customers who had downloaded its application to order a ride, in the initial three days of their services. Taxify had also recently declared financial backing from DiDi Chuxing in China. The company has however paused its operations and is looking forward to sort the issue at the earliest with Transport for London (TfL)
