Tez is Rolling Out New Messaging Feature
Google added a new messaging feature to its Tez payment application in India.
The application now features messaging alongside the payment features. Google initiated this move after WhatsApp introduced peer-to-peer payments in India. India being the largest country for the app worldwide, with over 200 million users, WhatsApp is amassing massive profit as it is a reputed multi-purpose app. To keep up with the growing competition, Tez launched a feature to enable users to communicate directly with their contacts via the same app.
Tez launched by Google, in 2017, claims to have over 15 million registered users. Initially, the app was a plain peer-to-peer transfer service, however, recently introduced the new feature, holding the capacity for bill payments such as gas and water and TV/internet services.
In 2017, Paytm, which is a leading mobile wallet service in India, also bridged the gap between messaging and payments. The app, showed capabilities of payments, and further has announced plans to introduce other services such as games.
This is not the first time that Google has attempted entering into the messaging space, it has launched apps such as Hangouts. However, none ever reached the massive mass, as reached by WhatsApp.
Google was also keen on buying WhatsApp, however, it was unsuccessful as Facebook acquired the company through a US$ 19 billion deal. It would be interesting to see Google’s success at its-yet-another attempt to enter into the messaging space, via Google Tez.
