Amazon Added New Donations Feature to Alexa
Amazon announced the integration of a new feature to Alexa, enabling people to donate to charity with their voice, on April 2, 2018.
Amazon updated Alexa, equipping it to be able to donate money to charity simply by asking Amazon’s Alexa. The new feature is called Alexa Donations, powered by Amazon Pay.
People can just say, “Alexa, donate US$ 10 to UNICEF USA,” or any supported charity of their choice. Alternatively, you can say, “Alexa, make a donation,” and Alexa will further ask for a choice of charity and dollar amount. Alexa thereon uses Amazon account payment information to complete the transaction.
Currently, only 48 charities and nonprofits, including American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society, Tor Project, Wikimedia Foundation, and ProPublica are available on Alexa donations feature. Amazon said, “This is just the beginning — this list will continue to grow.”
According to Amazon, over a million people have used Amazon Pay to donate to charities much before the new feature of Alexa Donations was launched. The app if further attempting to make donations easier and effortless, as it has also collaborated with Give Back Box, to enable users reuse Amazon boxes to ship donations to charities.
