Nanocoatings are a consistent network of nano molecules used to seal a material at an atomic level through methods such as atomic layer deposition (ALD). Anti-fouling coatings are easy to clean and help keep surfaces free from fouling organisms, thus widely used in the marine and transportation industry.
Advancements in medicine have resulted in the growing geriatric population, thus causing exponential growth of the medical devices market. Nanocoatings are widely used in healthcare devices, in turn making the healthcare industry the largest end-user of nanocoatings. Construction is the next largest end-user industry, as the use of nanocoatings provides protection from moisture, thus reducing the need for maintenance. Marine nanocoatings are also commonly used, as they make the surface smooth, low frictional and slippery, not allowing fouling organisms to attach to the surface. Additionally, these are eco-friendly substitutes for anti-fouling agents.
