New Technology Pillow Aids Sleep
Somnox—a giant peanut-like pillow, is meant to be cuddled all night to assist in breathing and enhancing sleep, according to an article published by The Verge on December 19, 2017.
Somnox, is a breathing robot that aims to soothe one to sleep by non-invasive and non-medical means. The soft pillow is embedded with a speaker that can be programmed to play heartbeats, guided meditations, or soft music. One can also upload an audio of choice onto this system. The volume of the audio playing is designed in a way that it decreases as the user drifts off to sleep and eventually cuts off when the person is down for the night.
There are several sleep techs that are equipped with soothing sounds, however, this new launch stands out from the rest. This is due to its pulsating breathing. The pillow rises and falls in the same way a person’s chest does at a calm rate. The person’s breathing matches with the rhythm of the pillow, lulling the brain and body into the perfect sleep state.
This is using the same concept as that of the popular bedside device Dodow. However, the huggable pillow adds a level of comfort that has not yet been seen in sleep aids for adults.
The sleeping aid pillow has an app that allows one to set their breathing and audio preferences. An alarm can also be set onto the system of the pillow, which will wake a person up gently with music and breathing.
The app does not yet track or keep a record of sleep data. It is thus seeking to be funded by Kickstater, after which it expects to integrate that feature in its future updates.
This sleeping aid, unlike any other, is expected to be at the high end of sleep tech at a retail price of around US$ 700. Though the steep price, it is expected to do well globally. Sleeping aids are gaining popularity among the global populace due to increasing incidence of sleep disorders and stress, as reported by Coherent Market Insights, in a report named sleeping aids market, which illustrates the significance of the market with respect to the current global scenario.
