Nimbus Overpowers Samsung in SSD Drive Capacity
Nimbus Data launched the world’s largest SSD drive overpowering Samsung’s 30 TB capacity drive, as announced by the company on March 201, 2018.
Samsung launched its 30 TB 2.5 inch SSD drive in February 2018, which made the world’s leading company for the highest capacity SSD drive. This position is now taken over by Nimbus, with the launch of its 3.5 inch SSD drive unit with a massive 100 TB capacity.
The company plans to make available its new ExaDrive DC series by October 2018. The drive will be available in 50TB and 100TB models. Nimbus Data is currently sampling its product to selected strategic customers, however, the price has yet not been revealed. The company claims that its cost would be similar to current enterprise SSDs on a per terabyte basis, indicating that the card will be priced extraordinarily expensive, at least during the first few months from its launch.
Thomas Isakovich, CEO and founder of Nimbus Data said “Power efficiency of the drive means it will draw 85 percent less power per terabyte. As flash memory prices decline, capacity, energy efficiency, and density will become the critical drivers of cost reduction and competitive advantage. The ExaDrive DC100 meets these challenges for both data center and edge applications, offering unmatched capacity in an ultra-low power design.”
The development of this SSD has potential application in large cloud services or corporations managing data centers. However, it will set a new benchmark for future storage capacity, attracting several customers in the near future.
